2002 - First Ancestor Series book, Dreamdancing With Ancestors Nominated for Pushcart Award.

Has won many First, Second and Third prizes in Austin Poetry Society annual awards contests.

Has won many First, Second and Third places in monthly Austin Kwill Klub competitions for both poetry and prose submissions.

2005 - Awarded Certificate of Appreciation at annual Austin International Poetry Festival (AIPF) for 12 years of dedicated service on the AIPF Board.

2006 - Won 4th Place in Eakin Manuscript Award, sponsored by the Poetry Society of Texas.

2007 - Finalist in the Violet Crown Award for 2006 Ancestor Series book, Following in Ancestral Footsteps, sponsored by the Writers League of Texas.

2007 - Selected as a Juried Poet for the Houston Poetry Festival; Featured Reader and published in their annual anthology.

2005 - Appointed in Washington, D.C. as National Poet Laureate for the Military Order of the Purple Heart and redesignated annually for 2006, 2007 and 2008.

2008 - Presented with a Meritorious Service Award by the National Commander of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, Austin Club, Austin, TX - at the annual George Washington Banquet.

NOTE: The Purple Heart is only awarded to combat-wounded veterans. The first meritorious service medal was presented to troops in the Revolutionary War by General George Washington. It was a gold heart on a piece of purple cloth. Congress made it an official medal in 1932 as it looks today.
